Maldives is said to be 1% Land & 99% Water, so why not we generate our power from the water we have.There has been many projects going on in the world trying to generate power from natural resources and why can't our country try it? Are we still going to depend on oil for power? When the whole world is depended on oil, why not we use our own natural resource we have for power?
I did Googled to find some of the projects which are going on and has been done and found some great options just to get enough power for our small capital. See the figure........
I hope our leaders would consider this as all of us already know that our country is so much concern on environment effects and this is something we could do just not to burn oil for power.

the channels between atolls and some of those between islands have really strong currents, because there is water all the way on each side and the country is on a 'hill-ish' thingy in the middle of the indian ocean. ocean power would be just awesome here.
I remember going to STELCO and sharing our 10th Grade Physics project which basically used the idea of the temp. difference in the ocean to generate electricity. It was a pretty good one. They just didn't have sufficient funds or something.

and u know what? i was one of the guys who won the umm sum science fare first place , and we did a project which is based on generating electricity using water vaes, we found out that it is possible to make such a thing!
wtf the governemnt is thinking?
